The overall objective of the ACTs project is to provide expertise and tools for combating the onset and spread of corruption in the private sector, with special focus on Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs). With its small size and lack of resources (e.g. well-staffed legal departments), the SME is particularly vulnerable to corruption risk, and unable to deploy effective strategies to defend itself.
The economic costs incurred by corruption in the EU amounts to around €120 billion per year according to an EU Commission’s report. This is 1% of the EU GDP, representing almost the annual budget of the EU.
